My young horse is currently ridden in a loose ring snaffle but I am wondering whether I need to change his bit.
He works hard but is quite sharp and forward going. He works on the bit nicely but he is always wanting to canter rather than trot and when asked to trot he then throws his head in the air and it all goes to pot. I am not sure if he is throwing his head because of the bit or because he's trying to evade my asking him to trot and not canter.
This has also moved on to when we jump. He tries rushing and when asked to slow down he throws his head around so you can't see the jump and he ends up going through the jump and not over it.
Would anyone recommend a change of bit? Or any helpful exercises particular jumping.
