Ok so I asked this in my ODE thread but it wasn't really the main topic so I don't tthink people read it. Coblet did an ODE yesterday and in his dressage he was quite strong and 'cobby' how I like to call it ;) he was either pointy nosed or extremely leany which made him very stiff through his neck and consequently an awful test. Can anyone recommend a better bit to use? He's currently in a French like full cheek.

Thanks :)

For a horse that leans, definitely try a loose ring french link with a thin mouthpiece like this:

Other than that, you just need to do the right kind of training, getting him to soften through his neck and be less wooden. Lots of walk-trot and trot-canter transitions up and down. Lateral work, small circles, flexing his neck one way and the other.

Is the snaffle loose ring or eggbutt?

Is he usually strong, tense, stiff when schooling at home?

If it is a fixed ring you may find that a loose ring may help. I like french links over single joint, having said that I do have 1 pony that goes better with a single jointed loose ring snaffle.

Thanks, it's am eggbut. I too prefer french links over single joints and he does too. I'll see if anyone has a loose ring I could try. Yesterday was the worst he's ever been, we were in an open field and he can be extremely nappy and can tank off
