I have a 5 year old cob x tb who hates single jointed bits. She has a large tongue, low palate and has quite a small mouth. I currently ride her in a Neue Schule Verbindend universal on the top ring.
She tends to chew on the bit and sometimes puts her head to one side. Teeth done not long ago.

Can anyone suggest a bit for her mouth conformation? Generally she doesn't need astrong bit but do need something a little extra for faster work.

Peewee bit. Perfect for this and is straight bar but curved and thin. Can be adjusted so that it has more breaks although I've never had to do mine

My daughter's dressage instructor recommended a Hilary Vernon Mullen loose ring snaffle ( square shaped one) for our 14.2 Irish cob who used to chomp on every bit tried! She loves it and chomping has stopped!

My tb has a huge tongue and small mouth, the dentist commented how hard it was to get in there to do the teeth.

A couple that work for us is a neue schule team up but in the thinnest mouthpiece size it comes in or a myler comfort snaffle.

Have you considered trying a bitless bridle at all? Might be ideal if your horses mouth is a difficult shape to fit. I am not a bitless fanatic, but do think that it is an individual thing and that sometimes it is simply the best fit, where bit don't do so well.

There are a few around these days, but after a little brief intial training with one you may find it works really well. Depends on what you will be doing, as of course sadly they are not allowed for dressage. which I can't really understand, but if you're not into that then it may be well worth considering. Good luck!

One of my warmblood was like this used to hold his mouth open the whole time to make room for the bit .
I tried various things but the answer for him was a simple myler loose ring snaffle.

Sounds just like my ex racer, he would always chew, open his mouth, twist his head, flop tongue out etc.

I've recently changed to the NS team up, and it's made a huge difference - it does look very thin, but as there's not much room in his mouth it is ideal, he's much happier in it.

Myler snaffle could believe the difference in my guy when I changed he has the same problem as yours. Whoever came up with the "thicker is kinder" in regards to bits needs to be shot LOL
