my 15hh Hanoverian x TB mare has started hanging on the bit, shes in a waterford snaffle which is designed to prevent this however shes started to evade it. I've tried re schooling and going back to basics with a snaffle but recently shes getting worse and worse to the point where i struggle to pull her up, which when jumping roughly 1.10 this isn't the best position to be in! ;) so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas i could try? I dont want too much poll pressure as she already can overbend so dont want to encourage this? and its this factor im struggling most with, any ideas would be brilliant, theres so many bits out there its hard to research all of them!! Thanks

I was recently having this problem with my mare, I wanted to stick to a snaffle but she really objects to any poll pressure so I got a full cheek with a copper peanut which has gone down a hit with her! She happily mouths it and no longer leans on my hands!
I also changed her to a comfort bridle, the combination of the two has seemed to have worked very well for her.

Ive also converted to a comfort bridle and have found this to improve her however her pervious owner competed in a Tom Thumb so feel a snaffle mouth wouldn't offer enough

Had this problem with mine, just did a lot of schooling to make him more attentive to the bit and sit back on his quarters, and he doesn't do it at all now! He's in an eggbutt snaffle. Though tbf he's not much of a jumper :p

I have a Hanoverian x TB mare and I've found the only bit she is truely happy in is a non-ported pelham. She doesn't lean or fuss with it in her mouth and is really light on the forehand. I tried a hanging cheek mullen mouth snaffle but she wasn't happy in it. She also hates jointed bit/snaffles so I just stick to what she likes now!
