bit keepers

hello i know ive done nothing on here but post about bloomin bits recently bit im still stuck! lol so when using a full cheek snaffle with hooks ive read that i should be using bit keepers?! is this correct and where do i get them from or do i need new cheek pieces or whatever they attache too?

i was just wondering the same thing and was going to post. Ive just got a full cheek snaffle but wondered whether or not to get the keepers? DOnt know if or how it weould affect the action though as ive just bought the Sprenger Aurigan KK ultra full cheek snaffle.

No, They attatch to the cheek pieces, a little fold of leather that the cheekpieces on the bit slot through, I know our local saddler sells them, other than that I wouldn't know where to look.

right so the cheek pieces attache to the hooks and then the bit keepers attach to the upper part of the bit and then to the cheek pieces too? are they abosolutely necessary? is it soooooooooo ho ho important that i have them?

I think you really only need them on loose ring full cheek bits to stop it sitting incorrectly in the mouth. The cheek pieces go through the loops (loops like a figure of eight) then the cheek of the bit goes through the bottom loop. Did that make sense?

nope.. you should use them on all full cheeks and such or else the bit is just a normal snaffle, the leavering of the extentions up to the line of the cheek peice makes them that wee bit stronger.. and basically you are wasting 10 quid if you dont use the bit keeper..

Only if you want that leverage, some (most?) full cheeks are used to aid steering and stop the bit running through the mouth.
