What bit and / or noseband combination would you recommend for a "set in his ways" 23 yr old pony who 95% of the time is perfect but when decides that he would rather go around a jump or head toward the gate regardless of what child on board is doing (and a fairly strong child at that!!) ? In other words she pulls on rein, he just fixes his neck and keeps going direction he wants. Currently in full cheek French link and plain noseband.

In the ideal world, schooling would be the answer but this lovely old boy has taught a lot of children to ride and really has been there got the tshirt and he knows what he is doing!! Luckily it's not malicious at all and all done at a sedate but determined speed... It's teaching my daughter lots about lining up to a fence and using her legs but often he does it even she is doing all the right things. Ay help appreciated just to give her a bit more steering control at crucial moments!

Stick with the full cheek, add a grackle to prevent the pony crossing its jaw and teach the child to steer with seat and legs.
