Having picked up my new horse about a month ago, and not really had a lot of time to do much with him other than a couple of lessons and some hacking, decided that what we really needed was to enter for some dressage. We wanted a low key trip out - more as it was my boyfriend's first time as groom rather than any worries with Harley-horse :p - so went for some unaffiliated at Oldencraig.

We've had a lesson with Nicky Crisp a few weeks ago, which really opened my eyes as to how to get more from him on the flat, and I've been enjoying working on it at home....but I'm an appalling test rider, so really wasn't expecting much. Just entered for the two Prelims, the first of which he managed to win on 69% :D The second of which was less impressive for 4th, as we were all a bit bored by then, and I was somewhat distracted having been sworn at by a ghastly woman in the warm up...who we then managed to beat, thankfully.

A lovely day was had by all, not least because my wonderful boyfriend proved very adept at both grooming and making bacon sandwiches in the lorry, and Harley impressed with his winning waysand generally being a super easy horse to have around. Next plan is some more dressage, trying to fit in more lessons with Nicky Crisp, and returning to training with Nick Gauntlett in preparation for some winter BS and hunter trials.

Waiting for the test to start with my two stressheads, the Sunday papers, and a cup of tea :)

He's ok.....at the moment he's dropped a bit of weight, so we're feeding a lot of hard feed and substitutes (like grass nuts) and I'm worrying about the winter for him. He's eating well, but he's always been a bit susceptible to weight loss at this time of year (coat growing), so I'm hoping that it's a timing issue, and he'll pick up before winter proper hits. Generally he seems very well - and cheeky! - in himself and the condition of his mouth hasn't deteriorated, it's just his weight that worries me, but I fully admit to paranoia where he is concerned.

After all you've been through with him, you are perfectly entitled to be paranoid :) so glad his condition hasn't got any worse. Fingers crossed he stays nice and healthy through the winter and doesn't drop too much weight.
