I dont know how many of you know the story behind me and my horse Ria, but it has been a long, dangerous and bumpy road. she is an ex racer who before coming to me as a 4yo was abused pretty badly. she was aggressive and sometimes she would just flip out. everyone told me i was crazy etc and that she was useless. (was retired for a year as a 5yo due to fractured pastern which vet thought would never improve). when brought back into work she was just mental. bolting, bucking, you name it she tried it. everyone is constantly putting me down about her, saying how she is too much for me - they make me believe that she is and it is SO hard to keep trying with her. She is now 7yo and to me is as perfect as they come - she still has her moments obviously as all horses do, but noone wants to know anymore. my mum is forever telling me to replace her with something better. but i dont know how to convince her that we have turned a corner! i believe we have but it feels like everyone is trying to play mind games with me!

Here is a video of Ria recently that i made to try and cheer myself up, im not crazy for seeing ability/talent in this little mare am i?

if you love this girl and you feel you have turned a corner then why listen to the negative nannys. she is beautiful, and full of spunk to boot! i love horses like her. well done x

What a lovely video and she's a stunning mare but quite a livewire! :D

If you like her and you are finding that working with her is getting not only the results but a lot of satisfaction - then try not to let anyone else get to you.

I know that it's easier said than done though. I had two years of negativity from other people when I bought my chestnut mare (ex endurance horse). I still have her now and I don't regret ignoring their advice and keeping her at all, but I do regret letting them make me feel miserable.

thanks for the lovely comments, she is always going to be a little bit crazy - but as you can see she is so keen to try now whereas before she used all of her energy against me!
i just find it hard not listening to people that are supposed to be supporting me - it gets me thinking maybe they are right which is when i start to doubt myself.

i recently bought a horse trailer because she was going so well i thought she was ready to show off to the world, i reallly want to prove to everyone that she belongs with me - its just getting back that confidence to give it a go

all the best girly! im actually thinking of getting a trailer as i have no facilities where i keep my guy and id love to be able to ride/jump on sand for a change!x

Take it easy, don't put too much pressure on yourself and just enjoy your mare. :)

When I took mine to her first show I didn't enter anything, I just let her soak up the atmosphere. Then I entered her in an in-hand class at her second show and because that went well we did a ridden class at her third show (and we got a rosette too!).

Love the montage !

She's gorgeous and if you are enjoying her and finding it rewarding keep up the food work.

As wildcat said everyone should experience a crazy chestnut at some point and I'm apparently my husbands so there would not be enough room for both of us :-)

Yeah she's a little bonkers, but she's lovely! I've seen far, far worse :D Who gives a monkey's what other people think...she's yours, you love her, and that's all that matters. No one else has to ride her. Three years with a formerly abused horse is no time really...it doesn't surprise me you've turned a corner now and not a month or two after getting her! Keep doing what you're doing and it'll get even better...and even if it doesn't your ownership of her is nobody's damn business but yours :D

I really like her :D and tbh it looks like youve done a bloody good job with her, why, when you feel youre getting it together now, would you sell, ignore others and go with your gut, shes working on the flat quite nicely for you ( i peeked at your other youtube vids ) a bit sharp and tense at times, but no worse than lots you see while out and about, keep going, with constructive work, determination and the help of a good instructor, you can only get better, and well done on what youve achieved so far :)
