I'm currently living in Belgium as part of my Erasmus year, and was thrilled to realise that I can see a field of horses from my room (it's a real dream come true for me - although it does seem to mean a lot of my studying time is spent staring out the window!)
Anyway, this morning one of the girls I share the house with who has never been around horses before and came running into my room screaming because she could see a horse dying in the field and thought we ought to go to help. I hurried to the window to look out and see the mare having a lovely roll in the dust before getting up and cantering across the field having just been turned out complete with some very high spirited bucks.
Needless to say I started laughing to which my house mate very indignantly accused me of being cruel, saying the horse was clearly in pain and that we ought to go and tell the owner straight away. A short explanation left her pretty red faced, but it has given us a giggle on an otherwise fairly stressful day! And yes, the mare is still there in one piece this evening!!

I'm in Mons, it's a pretty town but full of construction work at the moment so walking anywhere is proving fairly treacherous as there seems to be no health and safety at all- to get to the supermarket we were told by the builders to walk right in front of a moving digger (complete with bucket full of rubble), so it's a bit of a culture shock all in all! If I'm honest I'm finding it really tough, missing everyone from back home so much - but time is going quickly so just trying to make the most of it really.
How was your time in Switzerland? I've heard the different language areas are all totally different so that must have been pretty interesting.

I love things like that.

I live one field away from an outdoor pursuits centre where city centre schools come for a week once a year to learn about nature and the country. I was poo picking in the field when a little boy came rushing up the footpath shouting "miss, miss, that horse is eating grass!" "Yes" I replied, "thats what they eat." "But I thought they ate carrots!" he exclaimed.
