Sorry a bit of a rant, is it just me??

I try and walk R in the park as much as i can now it is lighter, shes as good as gold.

She is mostly off the lead but will stay within 10m of me, but i'm getting increasingly annoyed with other local dog owners that make my walks not enjoyable...

Dogs not under any control of the lead, one strong dog pulling over quite a ''buff'' man next thing i know a kid has the lead... well for two seconds and this mental poodle is running around trying to get 'a bit of action', people assuming she dangerous! she wouldn't be off the lead in a park with kids if she wasn't friendly (Grrr!)

Sorry it's getting to me, i would love to take her to the fields but thats a weekend thing due to the light ect...

It is utterly maddening that some owners ruin it for everyone, other dog-owners and members of the public alike. There are a couple of places nearish to me that have instigated a 'no-dogs off-lead' or 'no dogs at all' policy, thanks to the actions of owners such as you describe. Of course, people were up in arms about it, but one of the locations had had several bite incidents reported, not to mention the mess. Maybe if you are a responsible dog owner you should be able to do a little test and then be granted a special stick to administer a spanking to others that cause a problem;)

I was in Canada with my friend and in her local park they had a securely fenced off dog run area, it must have been about 2 acres in size, which I thought was a brilliant idea. It meant that you could play with the dog off the lead and keep people out! I don't know if there are any places like that in the UK.

One of the places I mentioned has designated 'dog-exercise' areas (I think -it's a while since I've been there) but people felt they were entitled to have dogs off lead wherever they wanted. I think the idea of a dog zone is being mooted for the other place, but again, dog owners aren't happy with that!

Did I read it right your dog was running around ? Because if I did you are as much at fault as all the other owners .
If a dogs recall is not 100% they need to be on the lead in public.
Of course it will concern non doggy people when dogs are running and not returning when called .
I apologise in advance if I have read that wrong .
Why people don't take dogs to training classes if they are inexperienced is beyond me once a week for twelve weeks a bit of daily effort and it will pay you back for the whole go the dogs life .

I dont think there is but when i go over to the fields there is so many routes and i love it, but the local park is just hell, its not the kids as much as to be fair the park is near a school, but the dog owners i just don't understand it! (maybe it is just me!)

Some times i have to shout at owners to come and get there dog which they have no idea where it is and don't seem that bothered that it is on the other side of the park...

When i say running about she never goes far from me (5 metres max!) she just runs off to smell something then back to me, i won't allow her out of my sight and she won't allow me out of hers... but its the owners that aren't paying attention and then i'm lumped with a bl00dy dog that won't go away from my poor R, she not aggressive but some dogs are too much for her and she will blonk herself on my foot in a ''help me mummy'' way (and the owner is 9/10 completely unaware...)

RE the training i totally agree with you! I didn't take her to puppy classes i just took a lot of time and stuck to it and eventually she got grasp of what i wanted (quite quickly actually) but i don't get some people...

All i want to do is have a nice walk in the park with my baby! LoL

The park near my house is a nightmare! My dog never leaves my side, he will go a couple of metres and come back. There's a group of people who walk there dogs together, all off the lead, and they just run up to everyone else's dogs. Mine would never go off and go up to them, but if dogs crowd him he has a tendancy to go for them so he has to be on a lead when they are around.
I was throwing a toy for him one morning and someone else's dog came running over out of the woods so I took the toy off him when I saw it coming and put him on his lead and they made no attempt to call their dog. I had to try and keep them apart whilst shouting at them to retrieve their dog...mine hadnt growled or anything but I dont trust him with dogs he doesnt know so they should never be running over to him. Some people ruin it for everyone else.
