Oh gawddddd talk about wanting to die on the spot... Let me explain!

Have a good friend of mine who I have known many many years ( age actually introduced me 2 riding at a young age!)

I don't see her much anymore I moved away 350 miles away so yeah... She kept having lessons etc I bought my own etc.

So now she lives near me, we've not ridden together since we were like 13..! And were 23 now!

She told me she wanted a loan horse, as she misses riding etc

So I agreed to help her find one, we found a nice cob very close, i liased with the owner for my friend sorted!

Agreed to go along with friend to see potential horse to start off with .,,,

She started grooming, fine.

Owner asked to pick out feet as she said she was done grooming and ready to tack up yet hadn't picked his feet, she was picking frogs n all!!!!:-0 owner had to tell her what to do.

She then didn't know how to put a bridle on eek :-/ abd then put the saddle on way too far back did his girth up loosely(very loose)... And said "don't want to do it too tight incase I hurt him :/"

Then mounted on the wrong side, didn't know how to hold the reins :(

Went out for a hack half way through, cob starts spinning and napping (nothing malicious )... She has her hands a metre in the air proclaiming "he doesn't want to go that way he wants to go home" and then allows him to go home....

I wanted the ground to swallow me whole :-( abd my friend.. What are riding schools teaching nowadays?! Or not for that matter

Eek!

Big lesson learnt then eh?!

There's a big difference between 'riding' a little riding school pony at 13 years of age and riding a 'real horse' at 23 years of age with little or no riding in between!

I'm hoping so.! The owner looked highly annoyed! I don't blame her! Wish I'd seen my friend ride before I believed what she told me :-/ .. My friend also said she wanted the horse :-o and the owner very nicely said ok go away abd have a good think abd let me know... My friend text her the next day saying she wanted the said horse (ohek!!!!) needless to say the owner didn't reply, my friend also asked me to ring her and say so. I told a White lie said I'd left her a voicemail :/ that was z few weeks ago and my friend is still asking if the owner has got back to me!

NO and shes not going to lol!!!!!!

Ooops..!

Feel a bit sorry for your friend- maybe you could politely invite her to help you out with yours (under intense supervision, sounds like it is necessary!) so she can learn more about the practical side of things.. would do her the world of good!

Could you suggest maybe giving her a management lesson on yours? Say something like "I noticed a couple of things form the other day, you were good with the Horse, but next time it would be better if you ....., I could show you if you like?" that way your suggesting it rather then telling her she needs to learn.

The thing is with riding schools, is that the Horses and Ponies are already groomed and tacked up for you. You can't learn if you can't practice it.
