In a bit of a pickle!
So we took on a young lady (23 ) at face value, she said she had experiance! working in stables ect, and that she was a good rider!

We said that the little mare is a proper school mistress, which she is! goes first or last, rides out on her own, good maners, although not very fit and suitable for happy hacking! ect, agreed

Terms of contract, girl was allowed to ride as much or as little as she wanted, and to do stable dutys of said horse on the days that she rides, if she couldn't make it for one reason or another we would do her. Young lady would pay for livery and a contribution to shoes. We would take care of haylege, food, and bedding.

Problem, yesterday she went out for a ride with a young girl ( 15 ) 2/12 hours later! after road and blasting through woods, brings mare back covererd in sweat without cleaning her off, went home to let young girl to deal with mare, stable not cleaned out properly and tack not put away in the way that she found it, ie bridle hanging up by the browband and cover not replaced on saddle ( which I have already showen her how to do! )

Then I get reports from a third party that young lady had got of mare in the town to go toilet and then tried to remount on a blind bend in the road, with the saddle half way around the mares back, third party helped to put saddle right and took her off the corner.

Now! I am renowned to have very little paitence with numptys! and my way of dealing with this is just to say bye bye to young lady, would this be a bit harsh?
What would you do?

Get rid - silly little girl.
I now think 23 is only a smidge above a teenager, I'm sure when I was 23 I knew
everything. She has endangered your lovely mare, stupid child.

I would take her to one side and ask for her version of the situation and go from there, it's a bit strange that she's off loading the ponies care onto someone else already, tell her what you expect of her and if she can't step up to the mark then you will terminate the loan, it does smack of just wanting the riding part and not the looking after bit, and as for her dismounting and trying to remount on a dangerous part of the road .....ask her what the bl00dy hell she was playing at.

hmmm Well for a start I don't think she has been compleatly honest! inher experiance! but was willing to help her, but she keeps making the same mistakes, my first impressions was that she was bleddy clueless! and to make things worse this mare, I bottle fed and have owned her 12 yrs and she is the most honest of horses, and now I feel like I am letting her down :-(
hmmmmmm now how best to deal with it, grrrrrra oh and we are only 10 days into share, teathing problems maybe?

thanks for the taking her to oneside! oh and just to add the 15yr old has been grounded by her dad for yesterdays shinanigans!

mmmmmm r u sure she's 23? That sounds more like the behaviour of a teenager!!!!!
Oh dear sounds to me like another case of someone bigging up their riding and not really having a clue. Ur poor horse! I would be pretty upset if this happened to me and i would be having serious words or gettin rid straight away!

Def agree - whilst it';s all very well giving people the benefit of the doubt/being even handed etc., when it comes to horses and their welfare, I say b*gger being nice - get rid !!

Maybe ask her to explain what happened and why she is not sticking to the agreement, such as mucking out.

But unless she has an excellent excuse and pleades to have another chance I wound be terminating the agreement.

well an update! I went to stables as I knew that she was going up to ride, but had to shoot off before she got there, left a message to say I would only be fifteen mins, and for her to hang on for a bit because I wanted a chat, so got back, and she had been and gone!! telling the girl who had been grounded she wasn't in the F...ing mood for me to have a chat to her, and the way she was feeling she would probably hit me!! well pmsl, if I wasn't going to tell the share was at an end it is now! and she saved me the job of telling her! strange girl!!

That sounds awful! At least you can get rid of her now though...
I would just like to point out that there are plenty of competent teenage riders out there (myself included!) who would love such an opportunity, it's such a shame people like her give the rest of us a bad name!
Hope you get the situation sorted soon and that your mare is a lot happier :)

Very strange girl, we had a sharer last year too who took the P again riding the mare into the ground and leaving her in a state ,she only lasted a week too,I find it really odd, I would never do that to a horse if it was mine or somone elses! and it cost us that time, so being burnt once I asked this women to pay in advance, as I like to pay my livery in advance, and went today with the money in my pocket to refund her!! I have checked her Facebook and suprize suprize she has removed her horses !!!! pictures ( my horse that is) think I will go back to being a mushroom now! its safer :-)

I agree, i'm also one of the teenagers on here and i honestly would rather not be purely because of those that give us the bad name :(
Glad you got rid of her though :) Hope your mare has recovered well from being treated like that by 'it' (you can hardly call her a girl when she treats an animal like that). :)
