Hi I have an ex-racehorse we have had him a few months and for the first time he has been out for a few nights, he has started acting a little odd like when we leave him he starts going mad cantering around throwing his head which is not like him as he is a very calm loving boy, i went back to the gate and he trotted over to see me and was all happy nd started eating again also i brought him in for a groom and when i lead him back out to the field he reared and then when i walked away to leave he went bonkers again, but i wasnt sure if this was to do with the other horse getting ver excited, what should i do??

Have you had a bit of fast grass growth over the past few days? If so then it could be magnesium deficiency. You can either buy a commercial product or give him this mix twice daily if you can while the grass is growing fast. 1 level tablespoon each Epsom Salts, Baking Soda, Yeast & Dried Thyme.

MAgnesium deficiency affects the muscles and nervous system making the horse silly, edgy and spooky.

The other thing is are you hard feeding him? I've hard many TB's off the track and they do fine on grass in summer for most of the time unless in hard work. TB's are best fed on the basics - such as Barley or Oats with meadow chaff and some sugar beet to damp the feed.
