hi everyone! Betty was spayed today, and had a lower molar removed, as she had broken it.

the vet wasnt there when i picked her up- only the receptionist, and there was not mention of how the tooth extraction would affect her with regards her dinner tonight...!

her saliva is bloody- :(

should i just give her chicken and rice or something tonight?? or should she be fasted??

any advice or info greatly recieved. :)

Im really surprised your vet didnt send you out with some form of written instruction.

If she was mine I would only give her a little rice and chicken and with a tooth removed she might struggle.

I presume she has come out with some medication for pain relief.

I do hope she is feeling better soon.

nope- no advice regarding feeding after taking the tooth out, and in all honesty i forgot as i felt like i was having to defend myself...

the receptionist was too busy grilling me about a"rash" on her tummy (its not a skin condition: its from running through thick heather when she goes up mountains fishing, and a few midgey bites) and trying to tell me that her pinch collar is too tight. in actual fact it is about 1/2 a link too big... but it will be tight and uncomfortable if you expect the poor dog to LIE DOWN with it on!!

aaaaanyway! she has been sent home with a course of antibiotics, but thats all. to be honest i dont believe this dog feels pain! bulldog mentality!

i just gave her more wet than usual, and soaked her dry mix in warm water to soften it before feeding her.

she's fine today- the affect of anesthesia has worn off! :)

thanks dobiegirl ;)

vicki. x

soft food, definately! at least for a few days to give the gums time to heal.

your vet should have really gone over everything with you......!

id imagine she would have had a painkilling injection when she was in for her operation, but still..not very good practice not to go over post op care properly with you.

So glad Betty is feeling better and brighter, now the difficulty starts to stop her running around and opening her stitches.

Even though it is common practice for her to have a pain relief injection Ive never known them not to give anything else to bring home. Is she wearing the cone of shame?.

I would have thought living where you do seeing dogs with Heather rash would be a common occurence, around here no.

Pinch collars are meant to be snug/worn high as you know OP, they actually have the potential to be dangerous (as well as useless) when loose.

My old bitch was spayed when she was 11....

Sorry I don't mean to be rude, but can I ask why you are using a pinch collar on a puppy?

Betty is three. ;) and i use a pinch because she likes to dominate other dogs... the general public dont like it when that happens... and 34 kg of bulldog takes a bit of holding onto! ;)

Cave canem: yup! :D i dont think the vet had ever seen one before to be honest...! i had to take three links out when i bought it, and could do with another half a link less!

thanks everyone for your replies. the vet was out on farm calls when i picked betty up- but agree that there was a lack of important information. instead i got what felt like agro! they even write about her "rash" and tight collar on the invoice! ha ha!

Oh- and thank the lord she doesnt have a lampshade on! ha ha! in all honesty i dont think she realises that anything is missing...! ha ha! numpty!
