Bit of an awkward situation

My mum and aunt went for a walk tonight, down a path they walk each day, and a neighbour/friends dog was roaming, (both owners out, doors open and garden gates, owners very apologetic) its rotweiler/alsation, and has a reputation of going for other dogs, mostly my aunties little old westie and my old spaniel (when she was alive).

She grabbed my aunties 13 year old westie by the neck and shook her violently, whilst my mum and aunt had to beat the dog to get it off, she's been to the vets, and thankfully only has puncture wounds, has had antibiotics and analgesia.
Owners of said dog are obviously very upset and have been to see my mum and auntie tonight, but have said nothing about controlling the dog, other than muzzling it when they're walking it, and obviously not giving it free range.

I'm just not sure this is enough? Especially as I have a little dog and use that path... But don't want to be confrontational to the owners, as they're good friends...
sorry just wanted to hear peoples views, and share it without it being local gossip!
 
Completely understand you being upset and concerned and hope your mum and aunt have got over their shock as well.

In regard to the owners of the other dog,well TBH I'm not sure there's much else they can do really?? There might not be a cure for the dog's aggression to others (although of course they should try and address this problem and hopefully will have done so before now),so managing it is perhaps the most practical approach for now.

It does sound like although it shouldn't have happened,owners are aware of that and do feel bad,and will most likely take any steps they can to avoid it happening again,what is it you would like them to do in addition to what they have already said?? Perhaps suggest it to them if you are all friends I'm sure if said in the right way they will be open to ideas.

Hope your aunts dog feels better soon.
 
OH ''dognapped'' a roamer last weekend ish as it was quite a way from home. he put it in our kennels and the bloke came and got it at half eight (OH picked it up in the early morning!!!)

Came in, got dog, said thanks and toddled off, no lead on dog or anything. Hopefully these people learn, but i would definitely be slapping them for your mums vet bill.
