Bit of an odd one

The dogs run as a pack in the woods although do their own thing throughout the walk. I tend to take a shortcut and sometimes, Bear comes with me whilst the youngsters go with my OH. I took them out alone today and reminded them which way we were going. Bear decided to go the longer route, realised I wasn’t going there and doubled back but then was heading in the wrong direction. I jokingly told Mitch to go and get him. He did and Bear, having ignored my hand signals, turned round and came with him. My OH thinks it’s purely pack dynamics, I like to think it’s Mitch being overly clever!

Does your dog do anything that makes you think they’re a bit bloody clever?!

Mine can unfortunately open doors. Found that out once when she still had massive FOMO and decided I'd been in the bath for too long.

I had a border collie when younger. She used to come with me when I went out riding. One day after unsaddling I discovered that I had dropped my house key while out on our hack. I looked everywhere around the stables. The collie went off and must have retraced our route, without prompting as I never thought of it, she returned with the house key for me. That dog was a clever pooch and a mind reader.

My ten year old st poodle still gets excited to see me getting the lead for his walks ..he displaces his excitement by throwing the cushions off the settee and onto the floor.
I say to him “we aren’t going anywhere until you put those back “..and to my surprise he goes to pick up each one and place them back on the settee.He’s really clever!

A friends spaniel did that, well not quite so exceptional but she went with him, he’d never done scent work, and he found them.

I’m not sure mine are terribly clever but they’ve got me impeccably trained, firm but fair is their motto.

My fil’s springer did that when he dropped his car keys on a walk by the Wye, sent him back alone and he came back with them. Don’t think he’d ever done any scent training and was more known for very carefully bringing duck from a far flung duck pond whilst on the same walk.

Our previous dog could open the fridge door, we had to put a bolt on it. The fridge door that is, not the dog.
I can say to Blue 'Where's Uncle Trout?' and he goes off to look for him - even went and looked upstairs because Mr Trout's office is upstairs - but if Mr Trout is there when I say it to Blue. he just looks at me as if to say 'He's right here, surely you can see him'.
