Mac and Brenin are both very good dooers. They live out all summer, muzzled more than not, and only have a handful of happy hoof once a day so they get their supplements. Anyway, they both now doing regular work and more than they have done for the last year or so. Their weight has come down and is staying nice and steady, but neither of them has oodles of energy. Is there anything I can feed for energy that won't put any weight on?

As they get fitter and slimer then they will have more energy and be able to tolerate more work. Energy comes from calories, no way around that. Oil is good for energy, but unless you are also wanting a bit more weight then I would avoid it as it is high calorie. If I were you I would continue as you are and as the fitness increases then they will find the work easier - this will make the biggest diff. If you are still concerened then perhaps get a blood tests from the vets to check nothing is up.

My lot are on Alfa oil and a balancer (I use Lo cal from Baileys) My horses do endurance and have competed up to 80km (50 miles) on the above feed.

When I want extra energy I add Baileys Endurance mix. It is worth contacting Baileys they are very helpful.

If you are going to the "Your Horse Live" you will be able to talk to all the feed companies.

With increased fitness you will get more energy.

Thanks everyone. Mac is pretty fit now and Bren isn't that far behind. Will see how they go once they start coming in at night which I would think will be in the next couple of weeks.
