We have just got a little Section B mare for my daughter and having a play around with bits to see what works. Previously she has been ridden by a boy the last 4 years with lots of galloping and jumping and also a games pony so he wasn't too worried about stopping! She's very sensitive in the mouth but equally does need some sort of brakes when she gets whizzy. She's not the sort to disappear but just needs to be told to woah! We've tried her in a pelham (this is a little gold one with a losenge) that she came with but it's far too much in her mouth and when my daughter pulls or if she's on the lead rein with a runner leading its all too much for her - similarly the same with a 1 ring gag/universal (sweet iron mouthpiece with a losenge) she's not a fan of any pressure with that either. A wilkie we have also tried and it's ok but still not quite enough. We currently have her in a full cheek blue sweet iron snaffle which is the best one probably so far even though she has to pull a bit harder (also has a slightly thicker mouthpiece to all the others) but still looking for something a little bit more. She's safe but can be whizzy especially in the school and sometimes my daughter really has to pull quickly to get her to listen. When we tried her she was on sales livery and in a Kimblewick as that's what they were using for little people to try her which thinking back she seems to go quite well in but maybe still too much going on in her mouth and as she's so sensitive I don't want to over bit her.
Teeth etc are all fine. Just trying to have a play and see what bits work best for her that I can try.
