Bit recommendations for warmbloods!

Just wondering what people use/would recommend!

I currently have my horse in a French link full cheek snaffle. The actual "bit" in the mouth is thin; horse has a fat tounge.

She feels quite heavy in the hand, and I want to change it to something more suitable. I'm going to ring bit bank tommorow but wondered if anyone has any recommendations first!
 
I have a warmblood with a large tongue and low palate and I find that he goes well in a thin sprenger kk ultra baucher (hanging cheek). Tried various loose rings, full cheeks etc but he seems to be the most comfortable in this. He used to put his tongue over the bit so not sure if the lift and stability of the hanging cheek is what helps us but it seems to work. Not sure what issues you have, other than large tongue, or what level you're both working at, assuming teeth etc fine, hopefully the bit bank can help you. Good luck
 
I have an ISH who has a huge tongue and low palate and I am struggling too. I currently have her in a neue schule team up but she constantly opens her mouth, crosses her jaw and throws her head about and we don't have any consistency. I will be interested to hear what the bit bank recommend if you don't mind sharing because I couldn't get through to them when I tried. :( I was thinking of trying her in a myler with a port (think its an MB05), we only compete at local level and do a bit of basic dressage but I want her to be comfortable and I'm not sure she is. x

This. And also one bit can suit a variety of horses... mine goes well in a NS Verbindend. He is vaguely a "cob", probably got some Connemara in there, I think he looks like a NF, possibly a bit of ID or ISH, who knows. I also know a v smart coloured cob who wins every DR comp it enters, in the same bit. And a huge serious-eventing fancy WB in the same, and a little connie PC eventer type. All depends on what the horse likes.
 
May I ask is the bit thread where you could source different bits from HHO members still in existence on here? If so what was it called please?
 
My WB has a thick tongue. He came to me in a fat KK and I had problems with him always sitting behind the contact and never taking it forward, plus constant bit-crunching. I had previously used the NS Verbindend with success. It is generally recommended for established horses, at the time my horse was working Novice level but was insecure to the contact so I didn't think he'd necessarily be ready for this bit, but one came up second hand in the thinner mouthpiece. I found he was a lot better in it and haven't changed since. It is a loose ring as I like the play this gives me, but I use a drop noseband with it which helps to stabilise it in his mouth which has also helped.

It does depend on your level of training and what you do, but a full cheek is much like an eggbutt in the way that it dulls the effect of your hands slightly and is a bit more stable in the mouth - so you might find your horse goes better in a loose ring. The Verbindend is designed to provide lift through the shoulders so this might be a good one to try. If you look on the NS website they have descriptions of the action of the bits.
 
my warmblood also has a very fleshy tongue, he adored a myler combination bit. Not allowed in Pony Club competitions so also used a Cartwheel Gag, think it's know as a tongue saver? Was brillant, he loved it. Can also reccomend the Neue Schule verbindend :)
