Took the boys to get weighed today to make sure we're not going to be overweight with tack etc when we go to the beach on Wednesday.

well, I got a bit of a shock. dad's horse (16.3 kwpn, fine-looking) weighed in at 619 kg
I definitely did not expect him to be that heavy given that he's a very similar build to my older boy who's an inch shorter and much chunkier all over (and 566kg, which is a little bit heavy for him).
luckily he's not so big that we have to worry (can feel ribs easily but not see them, no crest or apple bottom) but its something to keep an eye on given that he's off games at the moment.

I must weight tape him if I remember to see how much of a difference there is.
Anyhow, he's now on a diet. I've cut his hard feed back to a few handfuls.

on a good note, my big lad is finally at the correct weight for his size :D
he was 635kg when he came to us last June and he's now 690kg and looking absolutely fantastic.

Sorry, it got a bit rambling towards the end. I guess my point is that it's a good idea to get them weighed regularly so weight-related issues don't creep up on us without us realising.
