Hi All,

Having started jumping my lad again I am finding him very strong, planning to change his bit from the lovely big soft loose ring rubber snaffle he is in for flatwork.

I have just measured the snaffle at 7 inches - This seems HUGE to me - Am I going insane?!

He is a WB pushing 18hh, but 7'' seems so big?!:confused::confused:

could be the right size but (i'm sure you know this) have you measured it correctly?

my horse 17.3hh takes a 5.5 inch bit and so did a 14.2hh arab x. a 16.2hh big heavy horse took a 6". so it does depend on the individual horse!

You need to measure from the inside of the cheeks, so just the mouthpiece, i.e. the bit that is in the mouth. But yes, it is quite possible to need a 7" bit, although they are very hard to get and usually need to be made specially
