Bit sizes?...

I'm thinking of getting a loosering snaffle, but have heard you need a bigger bit for a loosering than for most other bits? My pony is currently in an 5" eggbutt or a 5" dutch gag (with bit guards). Any ideas of what size he would need? or have i just answered my own question...

I've never heard that you need a bigger size
I use usual size

I know you need to buy half an inch bigger with a Warterford bit but I have not heard that you need to do this as a general rule with other bits!

Think you'll find that the dutch gag will be loose ring and the fact that you are using bit guards on it, points to the fact that they are to protect from the loose ring......?????..........
