Daughter 16.2 warmblood has been ridden in a range of bits tho the ones she seems to prefer means she leans and we have no brakes. She just gets stronger and faster has a lovely powerful canter but would like some control that both of us are happy with.
We tried kimblewick recently ok in walk and trot, backs off the bit ,in canter evades by sticking nose on chest -she just doesn't like it.If you try push head up just gets faster.Weird as you feel you're sitting on horse with no head!!!
Any suggestions gratefully recieved.
Thanks

I had so many problems bitting my boy, he had no brakes hacking at all. I found the neule schule universal worked absulutely brilliantly, I was sceptical about the price and whether they really worked but have never had so much control before. Took him on a 2.5 hour hack in a big group today and even though he was keen he didnt bomb off once!

I'll have a look those and if can afford one .thank you.
Lessons have helped wee bit.
Think I preferred the leaning and no brakes to the head on chest.

I had a similar problem with my horse, bit scarey when you are sitting on just a pair of very fast moving shoulders without a head or neck! He put his chin on the girth between his legs and for fun bronced and twisted too and his teeth and saddle were regularly checked.

I recommend the Neue Schule universal trans-lozenge bit for this type of problem. It is kinder than other gags and still gives control, my horse doesnt lean so much in this bit.

I am an fan of the english style tom thumb, mine leans on the hand, bucks, and has no breaks out hacking and this one has worked wonders for us. I use double reins, unless real fast hack then just single rein on bottom shank. it just has a lozenge mouth piece

The universal with a curb works really well with my horse. He can be blooming strong, took him away this weekend to the beach and he was really quite nice in it, rode him withoutbthe curb strap the first day and he was a bit rude, second day put curb on and he was lovely
