Okay, for xc Chloe has been in a dutch gag on the second hole. She had been worked in it to see how she went, and it all seemed okay. Her owners found her very strong out hunting, and that it wasn't really possible to keep her in a snaffle for it. For everything else she is in a loose ring snaffle, but man she finds this xc very exciting!
At the sponsored ride Chloe wasn't strong at all, just very head high, flinging her head around etc...I don't think this was helped at all by the fact that she was very wound up either, but it felt like she was really backing off from the bit, bring her head back and up to avoid it. I did have a light contact, because she felt as though if I pulled to hard she would go up, not in a horrible way, but I just don't think the poll pressure suits her. She would rather evade it rather than just listen to it, and that is at the best of times.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Sorry very long winded, but she has a funny little mouth.

Thanks for any help

I just slightly worry about that I don't think there are ones with french link, which she likes. There also seem to be quite a few 'types', and am a bit stuck about which one to go for

What about a french link hanging cheek, it has a mild poll action and is quite nice for horses to 'settle' on. Contintental snaffles( your gag) are quite direct with their action, and coupled with the exitement of the ride, perhaps it didnt suit her?

Ahh thanks, will look into that. I will have a chat with my instructor about that and see what she thinks.

You can easily get french link pelhams - they are in catalogues - i have just recently changed to a rubber straight bar pelham with a leather curb and roundings - very very pleased - i have more control and have been able to leave the martingale off as she now is coming down on the bit - something i never thought would happen as she has never been schooled (14yr old brood mare) so she just went round with her nose in the air - if you asked her to come down she just stuck it higher - she hadnt a clue what you were asking her to do. Give it a try if you can borrow one for a couple of weeks .
