So got Finn in and he spooked at nothing... I felt the thud of his hoof against my ankle bit ouchy but OK, so anyway lead him in and he was still little on tender hooks very looky.

Groomed him, etc he was fine with this.

Rode him in school trying a friends saddle on him he certainly fits better than the one he came with just too small for me and my fat bottom lol, he actually went alot better soft in mouth bending bit better although so much work to do yet.

Let my friend have a quick plod on him in the school he was totally taking the mick with her, then when she asked for trot he was fine, then he deceided to have a bit of a spook.. she stayed on.

Anyway, took him in hosed off and led out to field as usual, except friend and someone else from yard was taking feeds to field, this has been done before without any issues but tonight for some reason he thought ahh Im going to rear a few times and try and bite... yeah not me sunshine so told him off tugged at his leadrope told him not to even bother, get to field track and he's still trying it on, put him out in field and kept hold of him til he stood nicely, he didn't bomb off or anything.

Have no idea what got into him tonight, so will be working him slightly harder tomorrow see how he feels then, I will not have a naughty horse and especially a rearer!! I am hoping this was a one off and I can nip it in the bud before he thinks he can do it again.

He's not even fed, he literally only gets a 'token' feed of chaff (alfa) and nuts thats it, he's out alot at night too although been in the last 2 nights but even still.

I do not want my newly found confidence again to get shattered by his behaviour but am willing to work with him.

Just sounds like a bit of a spooky day is all - sometimes once they start they keep setting themselves off. At least he didn't get away with anything.

To be honest, it's asking for trouble to feed in the field and no doubt your poor pony was thoroughly peed off at not being allowed any. It's not allowed on any yard I've been at because it's dangerous.

You said yourself the saddle doesn't fit, so get out a qualified saddler to fit one correctly and meantime, lunge. If he remembers that saddle=discomfort, then he will be predisposed to misbehave.

They all get fed in fields all in seperate paddocks and are all good with this arrangement they all get fed at same time. I have done this with him loads and never an issue ive even taken feed out with him myself and no naughtiness.

Just thinking tonight was a one off or that he's really trying it on with me now he's settled more.

Saddler is being sorted already.

Hopefully he is trying his luck with you and when he realises he won't get away with it he will be fine.

My new pony (had her 6 weeks) tried on a few things but she has realised she won't get away with it and is a dream now :)
