Just been out to say goodnight to pony and felt his leg that has a newish splint. Splint feels fine - its half way down his splint bone. He also has one at top of leg under knee.

Anyway felt the leg and it was def. different to other leg in that either a vein or ligament was bigger and I could press it - slightly soft. Can't feel it on other leg. It ran down from knee behind cannon bone but in front of sdft and went in before the splint if that makes sense. Is this his suspensory?

Please don't tell me this is a suspensory ligament strain. We've only had him 2 weeks.

Will get vet out if not gone in morning.

MUch more likely to be leg vein filling from pus in the foot. Common things are common, as my vet used to say. Is there a pumping pulse? Is his foot warm?

Could easily be the blood supply to the splint if the splint is active, I guess. Really sounds quite unlikely to be a suspensory strain. Mine was dog lame with a very minor strain and the filling was in the tendon itself, and hard not squidgy. Good luck with it, try to sleep on it tonight.

Tiggy had chronic damage to both hind leg suspensory ligaments - nothing showed on the outside, other than the on-off lameness.

As far as my understanding goes, the suspensory ligaments are tucked in well behind the bone, but I may be wrong.

Fingers crossed all is okay.

I think I'm worrying because I check his legs every night and its the first night I've felt this. He was hooning around A LOT yesterday so wondered if suspensory might be the case. Will sleep on it and fingers crossed.

Hooning around might also have set off the splint if it's not completely hardened. Let us know tomorrow how you go on. Good luck with it.

It will just be the vein sitting slightly differently because of the splint forming. Don't worry too much about it, I had exactly the same panic with G once and it was absolutely nothing to worry about
