I have just seen a full cheek eggbutt snaffle bit with copper rollers being advertised on ebay and the ad states that it is quite a severe bit. Is this right? Please could someone enlighten me. Thanks.

Well I have used a 'D' ring copper roller snaffle , and never classed it as 'severe'!

Any bit can be severe.....just depends what hands are at the other end of the reins!

Sorry, I'm not sure how to post links yet. I just typed full cheek snaffle in and saw it. It is just an ordinary snaffle with copper rollers.

Yes, the same bit but a different ad, who also stated it was severe. Thanks for your help.

It was recommended that I got one of these (by a very good trainer!) for my young horse (jumped by someone else) as he tends to lean quite hard when jumping. I also noticed that the website said that it was quite severe. It arrived this week and she's jumped him in it today and said that it made all the difference. He seemed very happy in it, he's usually ridden in a NS loose ring lozenge snaffle and I'm sure he would have told us if it was severe!
