Jack was fine this morning, came to the horses with me as normal. I've been out this afternoon (nothing he can get to) and hes not even keeping water down and is pooing blood. Very quiet and pale gums but still alert. Waiting for the out of hours vet to call me back but worried about my old man. Im hoping its nothing serious but hes never been ill before in 9 years so seeing him this quiet and poorly is scary.

Sorry to hear Jack is not well and if he was mine and pooing blood with pale gums he would be at the vets. Im hoping its something simple and nothing serious but I would be very concerned.

Spoken to vet and unless anything changes she wants to see him first thing. She suspects a virus which has inflamed his colon, hence the bleeding.

Afraid i'd be thinking she didn't want to move on a cold sunday from her nice warm house-pale gums, quiet, passing blood, unable to hold water down would suspect possible parvo...

I have to say I would want him seen tonight, can you get to an emergency/out of hours referral place?

Shes at the surgery which is 20 strides away (regularly see the on call come and go). Hes fully vaccinated so can't see it being parvo. If anything changes he'll be straight there.

Seems hes got heamoagic gastroenerotis (excuse my spelling) so had an anti sickness jab and introducing water little and often then food. He bloody scared me! Not normally bothered by sickness etc but the blood really worried me.

Hopefully just another bug, couldn't blame him for feeling a bit run down with the recent cold weather. Hope he feels better soon. :)

If he's not keen on eating just yet I highly recommend the little Applaws wet tins, they seem very palatable.

Glad its not too serious and he is soon back to his normal self, I must admit when I read your first post it bought back memories of my favourite dog and despite seeing a vet straight away I still lost him.
