my horse is on box rest and has been for some time without any problems with his eating and has basically been eating anything in sight.

But today when i got up there this afternoon he still had half his hay left which is very unlike him. his droppings are the usual number and consistancy and he has drunk and peed. I have mixed some grass in with his hay tonight and going to see whats happened in the morning.

Is there anything i can to do to encourage him to eat it if he is still being picky? My brain isnt working

Stick some carrot pieces in the hay - he'll have a good ole rummage and eat the hay in the quest to find the carrots! Does he eat soaked hay? If so, briefly soak it.

Ah please don't get too worried - it could be very insignificant. Could be a dodgy bit of hay for example. My lot are eating less hay this week as it seems to be warmer at night. However, if it continues and trying to tempt him to eat with titbits etc doesn't work, then ask the vet, but don't go getting het up at this point. As you say, his droppings etc are the same. Its is so easy to worry isn't it, but I'm trying a new theory for 2010 that I'll worry when I have to and not before (trying to keep the stress down this year!). Not a very helpful answer I'm afraid, but hope he's fine and back to normal very soon. x
