Hi just wanted some info and advice, my bitch (1 year) came into season yesterday, I was just wondering how long the bleeding part of it lasts? I know the whole thing usually last about 3 weeks. Also is it best just to leave her to it with regards to cleaning herself etc? I saw special pants in Pets at Home but wasn't sure so left them.
I've only ever had dogs so this is all new to me, I will be neutering her, i have been told that can be done after her first season?
Any advice greatly received :)

All bitches are different, she could bleed for the entire time, it will get less after the first 10 or so days though. Some bitches are really good at cleaning up after themselves, others are a little lax, generally I leave mine to it. If you are worried about mess and she will wear them then you can get those pant things, I do know people that use them. If your happy for her to go without and shes doing a decent job of keeping clean then I would leave her personally.
Yep she could have been done before her first season too. After a season its normally somewhere between 2 and 3 months later they are done.

just be VERY careful when walking her ext as any male dog that smells her in season will "get her" if they can, and she is too young to have pups. the first and last week of a season is normally lighter than the second week and she may even get a sort of mucus as well as blood ttowards the end... dont panic if this happens it is totally normal . pants are all well and good (if she doesnt rip them off) but if she is not making to much mess i would just leave her to it. you can get her spayed 12 weeks after her season finishes, that is what most vets say. she may also have a change of temperament (like you may have when it your monthly visitor) she also may get a little "excited" and try humping things lol again all totally normal. x
