i have a shih tzu who whelped a litter of puppies on april 28th.the pups have just come off her.she appears to be in season again already.shes 2 years old and want to get spayed but this has put me back.the puppies were planned.ive never had a bitch have a season so soon.shes humping and playing the other bitches up,bleeding and swollen.i know its a season.anyone else had this happen.

Two interesting posts, and I've never had experience of bitches 'returning' so soon after whelping. Are they genuinely in season? Would they stand, for a dog? I'd think it highly unlikely, and I think that I'd seek veterinary advice.

East Kent is an experienced breeder who will have an opinion, or advice, I'd have thought.

Oenoke, how strange!! I'm not really an experienced breeder, so perhaps it's more common than I imagine. Out of interest, what was your Vet's explanation?

Alec.

Some bitches have seasons every 4 months and even every 3 months, so yes one could be back in season so soon after a litter. I think it is more common in smaller breeds, though obviously this was not the case with your bitch Oenoke.
If your bitch normally goes 6 months OP then maybe worth getting her checked over by a vet to make sure there isn't an underlying problem after the whelping.

My bitch did short cycle anyway about every 5.5 months, she had come in 1.5 months late the season I had wanted to breed her (the 1st time in 4 years), so it would have been about when she would have come in if she had cycled when she was supposed to, she had had like a split season, showing signs of coming in in the December (which was when she was due in), but not bleeding, then the end of January she came in properly, she was bred the beginning of February, had pups the beginning of April and came in season the end of May, then her next season was the end of November.
