My border terrier, who can only live with the older border by her side, is female, the older one is male, she seems to have learned this type of behaviour from him. She squats, but a bit high, and does it all over the place on a walk and as often as the male one.

The Beast only pees via cocking her leg and has done for a few years now (she'll be 7 in May) She also marks everywhere just like I would expect a male dog to.
She has never been in the company of a male dog apart from Windsor, but he squatted (due to old age and bad hips) so I don't believe she picked up this behaviour from him.

Its usually a sign of a dominant bitch. My neighbor's sharpei does this and she's a tough lil' cookie. I had a dachsund bitch that did this also and she was a very alpha bitch.

Daisy does this too - I think she's just seen Josh doing it and copies. She is the boss of the 2 dogs but I wouldn't say she was especially dominant.

Our cocker spaniel cocks her leg if you tickle her just in front of it. It is really funny to watch! She doesn't wee like that though.
My OH's parents have 2 GSD's, the dog pees like a girl and ends up weeing all over his front legs. I think he picked it up from their bitch tough as they got her first. It isn't nice when he jumps up to say hello though!!
