Bitches first season.

Hi, noticed afew drops of blood on the kitchen floor yesterday, so i guess my Vizzy is having her first season.

Ive only had dogs before, so this is new to me. Any advice, would be apprecited. How long will it last? How long does she need to be away from dogs?- my parents have two dogs you see.
How long afterwards can she be spayed?

A season lasts about 3 weeks, but she won't have the discharge for the full period of time. Hold on, I have a good webpage with info...

Keep her away from the dogs and don't walk her in busy areas. Best to walk her early morning/late night when there are less people around.

If I remember correctly, it is advised to wait 3-4months after the season.

Hi Showjump, She will be fertile for about 3 weeks - the week after discharge starts is generally considered to be the high risk period. I usually allow at least four weeks before leaving them unattended, just in case!
