Any tips ???
He is teething at the min so doing it even more, but he does do it anyway when he isnt teething.
He is only 4 1/2 , and i keep thinkin he will get out off chewing things, but i dont want it to turn into a habbit.
He only really does it when he is tied up outside and he tries to bite any door that he is near ususally the one next door, makes no difference if i give him a net and even if i tie him up tight he can still reach.
I have read someone saying putting poo on the doors, lol i really dont think the girl next to me will be impressed.

have you tried cribox, that generally tends to work? try something that tastes horrible to them, that should put him off.

Is he lacking in something? Try a multivitamin suppliment. I know of horses that chew wood if they are lacking in certain nutrients.

I agree - what about a salt lick

he has got 2 salt licks in his stable n he does use them, he is on hayledge and 2 hard feeds a day of horse and pony cubes and molassed chop ?? what multi vits where u thinking of ???

Mine likes to chew wood - he is on plenty of vits, mins, salt, ad lib hay. I give him a old branch to chew on. Our new mare also like a stick. Both of them are the same age as your chap.

Chancer will chew fences and gates given half the chance when out, so we have to put up electric tape all the way round the fence.

Luckily he does not chew his stable.

my 5yo will chew anything, similiar to yours

painted the stable with creosote (or the alternative you can get nowadays, from a diy store) and it does the trick
girl next door uses cribox and that seems to work too
think its just a baby thing

Pooh does work - if you can get the horrible, black run-off from the dung heap - even better. If you can't get the latter, leave pooh and water to 'fester' in a bucket for a day or two then paint on the wood. Re-do as necessary. Works for my baby !!

this is often a sign of salt deficiency. even if they have a salt lick I find adding 1 tablespoon of common salt per day to the feed can cure this problem.

Is he up to date worming etc and have plenty of hay? I had a 4 year old with me for a few months and when he first came he was quite poor and very wormy and chewed wood a lot. By the time he left me after having plenty of stimulus wormers etc etc and didn't chew wood anymore.

I don't really know if it was ultimately related - but he most definitely had stopped chewing wood by the time he left me.
