Swimming in very shallow water on Camber sands yesterday my OH and I both got bitten by some small (3-4mm long? pale sand-ish colour, something like a tiny lobster?) sea creatures. Didn't think to keep one as was too busy dancing round picking them off (yuck!). As far as I can tell they didn't have any sting to them or any of the anaesthetic for biting that parasites often have. They just seemed to grab hold and bite enough to draw blood. Easy to remove by flicking.

Does anyone know what they are? (Google didn't come up with anything for the UK except possibly baby shrimps (seems unlikely?) or sea lice which aren't supposed to live here...)

And has anyone had trouble with horses being bitten there?

Hmmm... I think I may ask the council/local BHS then. Will report back if they turn out to be totally safe/dangerous to horses (besides the obvious bites hurt and can cause irritation/taking off issue!)/or new to science!
