Biting

My 18 month old has recently developed a habit of biting. Its not usually malicious, he'll pull on coats and grab peoples hoods but never really went for anyone as such. He does this odd thing where if hes tied up and you walk up next to him he'll turn his head round with his mouth open at you. Like i said it never seems to be particularly nasty, just the annoying chewing and constant want for something in his mouth. He has plenty of toys that he'll destroy quite happily but still wants to bite people. He's not as bad with me but he'll play merry hell for anyone else and he gave my younger sister a nasty bite on the shoulder the other day. again i dont believe it was nastily, just a baby being a baby. But it cannot go on, so suggestions would be appreciated!

mine does that - hes not so yound anymore but still 6. iv learned to dodge it but recently iv been doing natural horsemanship (NOT parelli or monty roberts) with an equine touch lady. we have earned his respect of my personal space, and how to yeild hindquaters/head etc and all sorts - he is so much more relaxed AND he is biting less! i think it was about insecurity as much as anything else so try not to be cross with him!

So i would advise find someone to help you with his general handling and the rest will hopefully come

I have the same problem, my boy isn't nasty at all but this can be ridiculous as he has now broken 2 phones by biting my jacket. As you say I have become quite good at dodging as not sure how to stop it. I have tried pushing his head away each time but that is impossible to keep up as he is so persistent and starts to think its a game.
He does seem to be getting better though and is still young so hopefully will grow out of this. Was thinking it might be related to teething?

I may try the equine touch route it can only help.

Are you talking horse or child, if horse i would suggest having a small water pistol to hand and everytime he goes to bite someone squirt him a little he will soon stop if he thinks hell be quirted.

If child god knows, If i was naughty in anyway when I was small i'd just be slapped lol
