My gelding has started trying to bite me really suddenly after showing no signs of it in the past few months of owning him. It started when I kissed him on the nose he tried to bite my face and then now when I'm scratching his neck he's trying! Help! He's usually a really friendly horse and I don't know what could be causing this

I think that any sudden change of behaviour is worth taking seriously.

Maybe he isn't a cuddly horse? Have you always been so touchy feely with him? Has he been giving you signs to back off which you have ignored or missed?

Maybe he is sore and the behaviour change is down to that? If his neck hurts and you are rubbing a sore spot that could cause a change in response to being rubbed.

The end of a horse's nose is one of their few blind spots. I wouldn't kiss him on his nose. It really isn't safe if he reacts negatively and human face V horse teeth doesn't bare thinking about.

He's a cuddly horse which is why I fell in love with him! None of my behavior around him has changed I understand with his nose but it now seems to be whenever before I ride him but after he's really cuddly again

My Connie turns into a barracuda if he is stressed or in pain. As it is a sudden issue and out of character you might want to have the usual checks done to see if there are any underlying issues he is stoically dealing with.
