Ok, before xmas all my tack was stolen, inc my sprenger kk snaffle bit.
Since then, I have been using a bog standard, old but in good nick, eggbutt french link snaffle...and my horse is actually going better then he did in the sprenger, which cost about £70!
So...are these fancy expensive bits somewhat of a con...are they bought by unsuspecting owners because they think their horses will go alot better?
Obviously i expect people have had good results with more expensive 'hi-tech' bits, but are they nescessary to buy if your horse goes well in one that is well fitted and a fraction of the price, just because they are said to be more anatomically well suited to the horses mouth..?
Sorry...just a random thought for the day!

Well, the supposedly comfortable JP curved mouth bits, when I tried one, sent my horse crazy. She hated it so I think it is just a case of what your horse feels comfortable in. No mouth is the same so yes, I'd agree that it depends on the horse.

If it's not broke don't fix it.

I can't understand why people want to try different bits and strapping horses down if there is no problem with how they are. O.K. if they are having problems but if not leave well alone. People cause more problems trying out new things. No wonder so many horses these days are hyper or in some sort of pain.

My mare had a JP curved mouth bit, she loved it! But we were told she needed something softer with a full cheek so she's now on a french link fulmer, all I can say is that its worked!

I hired a KK bit, cant remember the name but it was the curved one with a lozenge in the middle and had loose rings, and found that he went better in his usual loose ring french link.

ditto Chestnut_mare85... definately depends on the horse.
My lad hates a straight bar pelham and the french link dutch gag, but loves the double bridle (which has a straight bar in it!

) and hates the eggbut snaffle but loves his myler 04 mouth snaffle and 04 short shank combination bits.... but then he is just wierd...

My old horse which I sold i used to ride him in a loose ring snaffle that was the only one could ride him in and he was very sensitive in the mouth I think it like most things peolpe bring out new products saying how wonderful there are to sell them sometimes they will make difference or you think they do because it is new
