I'm entering a local unaffiliated show this weekend, Wheatley horse show and want to do the open working hunter on my horse. However he hates being ridden in a pelham and the dentist has advised against it as it seems to be damageing his jaw. I now jump him in a Myler combination bit, would it be ok to jump him in this for the open working hunter class?? He's a TB so he's not the typical WH so i know i'm against the odd's with his build anyway but it's only a small class. I know that in the event of a tie between two horses the horse with the more traditional tack will be placed higher. He jumps so lovely in this bit and i have control, should i jump him in the Myler combi???

Of course you should!! Reading what people say on HHO, i find that non- showing people think that there are set rules & regulations of what horses should or shouldn't wear in the ring (through no fault of their own) - if you horse goes well in a particular bit, then use it - judges do like to see traditional doubles & pelhams, but they would rather see and ride a horse that goes well in its tack, than one that doesn't!! Good luck!!

Thanks, i'm new to this showing stuff and am rather enjoying it but finding it a bit confusing sometimes, i'm sure i'll get the hang of it though. I will definatly ride him in it for the WH this weekend, fingers crossed!! x

For workers you can wear most bits, I have to use a 3 ring gag and have not every been marked down for it, cant stop pony in double or pelham need "some" poll action!

Wear what he usually goes in, especially at Wheatley, its very local and for amateurs! - see you there although I am in WHP classes not horse ones!! Good LUCK!
