is lots of saliva a good thing? and i mean lots. my mare is in a happy mouth peanut snaffle and mouths it nicely but always has loads of saliva and normally leaves a trail. is this considered a normal thing? i know a little is great but loads? could it be the happy mouth? she didnt do it in a metal bit. but lately shes been very chewy as in eating everything. i suppose this could prob add to it all. dentist is due 10th oct so thats being sorted.

My horse is in a Nathe (similar to a Happy Mouth) and he has loads of saliva around his mouth. I'm sure it's a good thing so don't worry too much.

it gets every where when we went for a canter last night she had it all down her face and neck was windy tho lol and then she normally kindly wipes it all over my back when i untack her. i did try and put her bridle on with the end of her full cheek bit up her nose! she didnt appreciate that at all! lol

Depends what's caused the foam, if horses are kept in a tight overbent head carriage it can squash their saliva glands and prevent them from swallowing, so causing them to salivate excessively. But some horses do just salivate a lot as a sign of relaxation and acceptance of the bit, which obviously is a good thing.

hannah has a hugely foaming mouth when she has a bit in (and I mean huge), whereas Grace is a bit more lady like and refined. One trainer has me giving her some polos with the bit in before we start
