i thought we could have a sort of show and tell thingy where u put a picture of the bit u use out hunting and basically describe how good/bad it is.. ok i'll go first!! DR BRISTOL EGGBUT SNAFFLE!!

it works really well with my four year old.. i dont like alot of things going on around his mouth i like to keep things simple and this bit is the best so far!! he can bee strong sometimes with a normal snaffle but i put a dutch gag on him and that was a little to strong for hi. i put this on him and him and i love it. he can still have a good time and have fun while out hunting but i still have control over him!!! whos next? (claspes hands together, stands on tip toes and looks around with excitment)

I was once asked to take an eight year old thorougbred out hunting with a cherry-rollerbit. The idea was he wouldn't be able to hold on to the bit with his molars. At home he was always well behaved and we rode him in a snaffle. Out hunting i hardly had any influence on the speed once he got hold of this bit. It was useless! The rest of the hunt was fine.

Well what can I say? I had absolutely no control, was front of ride all the way, and just had to sit there!

I think when the adrenalin is pumping and your on an ex-masters horse doesn't help....should have worn a red jacket!

May as well have taken him out with no tack on lol

jointed kimblewick http://www.frogpool.com/product-5423.html might as well have been wearing a headcollar with the reins attached to it for all the good it did. Found the perfect brakes in a dutch gag http://www.frogpool.com/product-4051.htm with the reins attached to the second hole down. This is for a horse who likes to plough furrows in the ground as he goes, he is that forehandy. The dutch gag helps me keep him much more up together and stop!
 
Mine: Straight bar pelham with 2 reins but going to try roundings next. My mare will only go in straight bars and waterfords. She locks her neck and goes, the pelham stops her locking.

Bosses horses: Cheltenham gag. Horse has a thick neck and can lean, drop his head and go. Using a light contact you can lift his front end in this.

Happy mouth dutch gag on bottom ring with back strap. Horse is very fussy, can only have straight bars. Can have a very light contact with this but needs something when cantering.

Anti pinch loose ring snaffle Just to stop the bit pinching on long days.

We also have various liveries but not going to list them all.
 
tried a ported kimblewick first time - couldn't stop and horse kept yanking to the ground

2nd time tried a cheltenham gag - managed to stop but horse had major tantrum about it and sitll yanking to the ground

hacked out in a vulcanite pelham with roundings yesterday and he kept standing on his back legs.

wondering what on earth to try next!
 
Neue Schule Tranzlink Lozenge pelham with 7cm shanks used with two reins. Pony is good as gold in this, never pulls or gets strong, has utmost respect for bit and for mummy on top!
