My 5year old is currently in a loose ring but i'm having HUGE problems with control and him leaning on the bit and my hands and arms are really suffering. Don't really want to put him in a stronger bit. Any suggestions?

what about going backwards to a plastic/rubber/happy mouth type bit, alot of babies that lean actually improve in a milder bit, likewise try a french link rather than a single jointed one

I train dressage horses and all babies lean on the riders hand to some degree for a while. He needs to find better balance. Transitions transitions transitions. Circles circles circles. And I get all my students into kk conrad ultras asap. Only ever found one horse who didnt like it. She is very opinionated though!
Seriously, its a phase and with training will go away. Have you got a good dressage trainer near you to ask for a few pointers?
