When i fisrt brought my mare 4 months ago she was in a french link snaffle, i cud not ride for a while and my friend rode her and had no breaks so a gag was put in in order to be able to stop, im now having lessons on my mare and she works slightly downhill al the time and im trying to get her down on the bridle however the gag is not the best nit to use as its constantly making her work downhill, does ne one have any suggestions on what sort of bit i could use that would enable me to have breaks when im out hacking and what would be more comfortable for her when schooling trying to teach her fancy work. many thanks for replies in advance.xxxx

i'd try a myler combination bit, as it uses nose pressure rather than poll pressure (mostly anyway) and helps stop them 'upright' rather than downhill.
otherwise, i'd just go back to your snaffle, she may just need a bit of schooling and to go out with some calm friends for a while.
