I have been lent a waterford snaffle to try on my cob as he has been getting strong out hacking - he sets his jaw, sticks his head down and I might as well be pulling at a gate post for all the notice he takes - I have been riding him in a french link loose ring snaffle. As a wonderful bonus he is MUCH lighter in the hand in the school - I hadn't realised how much he leaned on me witht he snaffle. The problem is that the Waterford is not dressage legal - I will carry on schooling in the Waterford and using it out hacking and its possible that if I just pop the french link in just before a dressage test he won't notice until we have finished the test, but I would prefer something that mimicks the flexibility of the waterford but in a dressage legal form!
