Hi all,

Bit of advise please, got a horse that is in a 4-ring Jointed gag at the moment, but is on the snaffle part, i don't want to keep him in it as i want to put him in a normal snaffle, would you just choose the jointed lose ring snaffle or something else, your suggestions please.

I just don't see the point him being in a gag when its on the snaffle part anyway, and i want to do dressage so cannot use it
 
Personally, I'm not a huge 'nutcracker' fan, so would go for a loose ring french link or even mullen mouth (hides, will be shot down for that one). Depends on your horse mind you :)
Oops, forgot to say, my mare's in a happy mouth mullen mouth hanging snaffle, she likes it!
 
I quite like using the hanging cheek snaffles. Preferably a french link one though, I do hate the single jointed "nutcracker" ones :)
 
By using the snaffle ring on the gag you are still getting a certain amount off poll pressure it isn't acting in the same way as a snaffle. Question is do u need that poll pressure do u think? If no than go for a snaffle such as French link etc or hanging snaffle if u want a little more than a standard snaffle.
I ride/hunt all my ex racers in a mullen mouth full cheek, love the bit and they seem to and have no problem stopping any off them.
 
I was thinking the Hanging Cheek French Link, which i used to use on my welsh section D, basically in the school he is fine to go in a snaffle, but out hacking he is slightly stronger, not loads though and to be honest its when he is with other horses, on his own he is fine, i just want a bit that i can do everything in, non of this changing bits of 3 bridles
 
I would go for a french link loose ring snaffle. The bit will be the same strength as the gag on the top ring which you are using now but with a link in the middle which is kinder than the 'nutcracker' action of a normal loose snaffle.
