my horse is curretly ridden in a pelham...but doesn't like the curb chain

He is very good inside (when schooling!) but as soon as we go on a hack he is very strong - not uncontrolable but still strong....

We are going to have his teeth checked out - yearly check up

And then i would like to put him in a milder bit for schooling, but not sure if this is a good move or not, and if i do i'm not sure what to chose

Has anyone got an idea?

He is 11, arab x french trotter, can be quite strong, but only when out hacking....Is it possible to ride in 2 different bits?

my pony hates curb chains so that rules out any pelhams or a kimblewick, so he is in a cheltenham gag which he loves - that might be good, or possibly a three ring gag or american gag???

Yes ride in two bits - its an excellent idea!

Mine have 3 each - Dressage legal, SJ and hacking

For schooling try something dressage legal (but not a single joint)

For hacking either stick with the pelham or try something else. You could also try an elastic curb chain as arabs do tend to be quite sensitive (we had one that loved a kimblewick without a curb)

i had so much advise on bits my head was spinning-in the end stuck with my instincts -rubber snaffle-but that dont matter. persevired with riding v forward welsh d with legs and seat and guess what its working eventually !! The bits only as good as the rider !!

You could try the pelham without the curb. Antifaz hates hates hates the curb chain and just won't go forward. He's going well in a hanging cheek snaffle at the mo, but I might go back to the dutch gag for brakes as he goes really well in that too.
