I know people will quickly point out schooling is required. And I appreciate that. But at the end of te day. I have a really strong mare. It's just her nature. I am sympathetic with hands. Or as far as I can be. And I am trying to avoid any nasty bits. When I got Her she was ridden in a Cheltenham gag. Which I don't like. And neither does she. I had her in a loose ring snaffle. But to be honest. I may as well not be on board. Tried a hanging cheek snaffle with a French link. Slight improvement. I try so hard to get her to listen. But she is just by nature very hot headed. Any suggestions re a bit or tack. She's sticks her head in the air when she gets really excited!

My boy is just the same - I too know its schooling that's required and mostly ride in a plain snaffle. If however im doing anything remotely fun I've ridden in a dutch gag or a wilkie. I have been looking into a Dr bristol. These bits imo are a good halfway house without having to resort to a true gag or a pelham for example.

Do you think a Dutch gag would be kinder than a Cheltenham gag? I was wondering about a Wilkie too. I was hoping the hanging cheek would be good. But not convinced its any more use than the loose ring!
