I'm sure you get this a million times but I'm thinking of taking my cob to a few drag hunts but at the minute I'm always riding him in a normal snaffle but that's me on my own with him and with one other horse he is fine as I've never had tons of people out with me like with hunting I would.. I've never changed his bit in around 7 years but he was once ridden in a Pelham and he was fighting against it but was thinking to maybe just use a 2 ring gag as I wanna make sure I have some breaks? Good idea?

In my opinion it's always better to have brakes there but not need to use them, than to find yourself quickly creeping up the order until you're seeing hounds and having lots of cries of HOLD HARD coming your way with absolutely no way of actually carrying out said 'advice'. ^^'

Definitely play around with a few different bits at home until you find one your horse is happy in though. Make sure to give it a proper test though, preferably with a friend letting the handbrake go unexpectedly so you're suddenly under similar conditions you will be in while hunting. :p

A wilkie might be a good idea - softer than a two ring gag but it'll give you a little more control than a snaffle? Definitely try first though, mine was once ridden in a pelham by someone with very rough hands and has since been totally accepting of any poll pressure (or any pressure at all to be totally honest lol)
