Hi all I've a 16.2hh 5yrold
At home hes in snaffle lovely manners and schools really well in
but as his only job with me is hunting he cant be stopped in a snaffle, I've tried pelham,cheltnam gag, universal and he is fab until we gallop and they if ******* off at the speed of light!! I have steering just no breaks, is there any strong bits anyone can suggest to try and solve my breaking problem?? Amd anything that will stop him getting his head down!

I would speak to the Bit Bank or Bit hire and talk through the options, they really helped me.

I'd try an American gag or Dutch gag - trying the Dutch first.

A Tom Thumb is another elevator you could try. I find Pelhams useless for strong horses.

Kineton noseband to stop him leaning on you
Something with a Waterford mouthpiece, again so he can't lean on you
Or a Y mouth - that would back him off.

Welcome to borrow all or any of them from me, just give me a shout if you are coming my way anytime soon. I've got a Waterford universal you could try instead of the plain universal you've already had!
