So we went to Rupert's first showing show at the weekend, having previously been on two outings for quiet dressage. He's just turned 5, is 15/15.1hh and behaved wonderfully. We won inhand coloured, and came 6th in ridden coloured - in a big, strong class and beaten by some experienced big horses! Lovely comments from the judges, the inhand judge couldn't fault his conformation and just suggested I make him trot faster to show off his paces (I was limping in uncomfortable boots!) and maybe chop his tail shorter and pull rather than plait it. The ridden judge said he was lovely and just looked a bit overwhelmed at first when we were all riding around, but settled well and did a lovely individual show (we were moved up several places after it), and pointed out that the horses above us were mostly professionals. I've never really done showing before, so it was a great introduction and now I'd love to do more! What I'm not sure about is exactly what Rupert is in terms of type. Obviously he can do coloured classes, but is there anything else? Pictures of him yesterday below. Can coloureds do other types of class? And if so can any showing experts out there tell me what he could do? He loves it! Such a show off.

Amazing to think this was what he looked like a year and a bit ago!

Get in touch with CHAPS and BSPA societies ,for lists of shows /types etc. They publish lists of shows with qualifiers for championships , HOYS ,RIHS etc. Hard to type your boy from the photos, at 15.1 he perhaps could do Small Hunter or Intermediates, or try and measure him in for coloured pony classes . Theres nothing to stop him entering other classes for the type/breeding he is. Certainly looks stunning in hand .

I think I can pass him for 15hh - he's 15.1 on a very tall day! If that makes any difference...the next show in the pipeline is in a month or so and has coloured ridden and inhand, plus the following:
Ridden Novice Horse/Pony
Confined Novice Show Hunter Horse/Pony (Ridden)
Inhand Show Hunter Horse/Pony
Inhand Riding Horse/Pony

Do you think he qualifies for any of these? Obv ridden novice should be fine as he's not won a ridden class.
